Ну, to skewer a friendly government publicly - это то, что от этого президента вполне можно ожидать. Ему не только skewer, ему ничего не стоит любого из них отдать на съедение.
А вообще, появилось такое странное ощущение, что вся внешняя политика США на Ближнем Востоке развернулась вдруг лицом к Ирану, и жопой - к бывшим друзьям-суннитам.

"And the president took the advice of three junior backbenchers in terms of how to treat Mubarak. One of them saying, 'Mr. President, you gotta be on the right side of the history.' And I would be sitting there at the table and I'd say, 'Yeah, if we could just figure that out, we'd be a long way ahead.'"
"Entire nat'l security team" means including Secretary of State Hillary Clinton?
